Home-made Shrikhand

First off, I am really keen and excited to share this recipe with you guys as it is one of the tastiest dishes I can remember eating, from my childhood. My neighbours happened to give me home –made Srikhand (Sweet Greek yogurt) to eat. The aroma of cardamom blended with nuts and thick yogurt was just fabulous to eat and the look was just like the one you get in the market. I could not stop eating with just one spoon. I’ll tell you it was that amazing and wondered if they are fooling me as it felt like a market bought item. So this recipe was on my mind for a long time that I’m sharing now with you guys.

Presently, in this whole fast moving world where ‘instant gratification’ is the name of the game, the food world is also keeping up with this trend. If it’s not quick to cook, no one wants to know the recipe or make the effort, as there is an abundance of ready-made options or substitutes for us to ponder upon. But, just take a minute to understand that home-made food has a longer life, is healthier, good in taste and our personal touches make it even better. We may not wish to always cook for tons of guests gathering for a party i.e. understood, but for a family of four – we can strive a little and make some lip smacking dishes at home itself.

Coming back to the recipe, I can assure you it is very quick and easy to make. I love the combination of roasted almonds and cardamom, but you can use any flavour like mango or crushed pistachio and even berries. You can refrigerate this home-made Srikhand for your kids and family to relish for a couple of days. At our place we eat this flavoured Greek yogurt as a dessert as well as with fried hot puris for lunch. I have made a use of MTR almond packets which is used for flavouring milk, but in this case, enhances the taste of the dish. So let’s dive right in for this instant sweet- almond Greek yogurt aka Badam Srikhand.

Sweet yougurt-Shrikhand home-madeIngredients:

  • 2 cups of thick yogurt
  • 1 packet of MTR almond (optional)
  • 1 tsp crushed cardamom
  • ½ cup castor sugar (can be added accordingly)
  • ¼ cup of crushed roasted almonds
  • Few slices of almonds for decoration


  1. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl (sugar, almond & cardamom)
  2. Add the yogurt and mix it well,wisk atleast its all smooth and well combined
  3. Freeze the mixture for two hours or use chilled curd for better taste
  4. Place it in serving bowl and add some crushed roasted almonds and saffron. Enjoy!
